@kioskwitch still love that Connery made this because he turned down both Lord of the Rings and The Matrix

@kioskwitch yeah he turned down both Gandalf and Morpheus and then was like “I don’t know what the kids like anymore, let’s do one of these”

@kioskwitch also thankful he turned down Morpheus, because I can’t imagine his ancient ass doing it

@madcat @kioskwitch the league movie is bad fun. it's much better than the comics and iirc didn't use violence against women and sexual violence constantly like the comic did?

@kioskwitch @madcat being not a dude and reading a million takes a day about his unparalleled genius is fun

@kioskwitch @madcat volumes 3 and 4 of lxg are a kids these days on their cell phones!!!! but only for arguing that all contemporary novels are bad lol

@kioskwitch @madcat man who made his riches off public domain characters and expies: Harry potter is derivative and thus all current stories are bad

@kioskwitch @wintgenstein @madcat Alan Moore has some really good stuff, and has reason to be venomous towards the people who screwed him, but yeah, no iteration of lxg is good

the concept is fun, and his take on Jekyll and Hyde is pretty solid, but hoo boy does his old "cripple the bitch" instinct make itself known early and often.

@kioskwitch @wintgenstein @madcat (to his credit he has long called that out as his absolute nadir as a writer, and something that if he could erase he would, buuuut)

@kioskwitch @wintgenstein @madcat the Killing Joke is one of his most famous works. it's the definitive Batman and Joker story. Has some great stuff in it! It also has a point midway through where the joker cripples Barbara Gordon, for no reason other than to fuck up her dad's day.

word of the author: "I'd love to say we seriously thought about it, but no, as I recall, the question of how far we should push it came up and I said 'cripple the bitch.""

@kioskwitch @wintgenstein @madcat Alan Moore writes some very good stuff. it makes the egregious "brutalize a woman to motivate a man" shit REALLY fucking egregious

@kioskwitch is good because it's awful and I'll stand by it until the day I die

@loki it is immensely entertaining, at least in parts, and I kinda love it for that

@kioskwitch yes exactly
It's also just so over the top and ridiculous that you can't take it seriously and I love that
